5 Tips for Writing a Love Letter in Another Language

Valentine's Day is approaching: what better way to express your love to a partner, friend or family member than by writing a heartfelt letter in their Native language? Whether you're fluent or just starting to learn, writing a love letter can be a great way to practice your language skills and show your significant other how much you care. Here are five tips to help you write a love letter in another language that is sure to impress:

1. Get the words

Learn the vocabulary in the People & Relationships category of the Drops app. There are all kinds of topics for Romantic love, familial love, and friendship. Need help with pronouns? Try our Gender and Pronouns topic in the Pride category. If you’re having trouble remembering some words, use our Review Dojo tool to practice words you’ve already learned until they stick.

2. Find Your Inspiration

Get inspiration from famous love letters or songs written in the language you’re learning. After you’ve gotten some lyrical inspiration, you can join the Love on Drops challenge on Drops, and learn the vocabulary you need to make a letter that’s uniquely yours.

3. Simplicity is Key

Don't be afraid to use simple vocabulary and grammar. Your significant other will appreciate the effort you put into writing the letter, even if it's not perfect. The most important thing is to express your feelings in a sincere and heartfelt way.

4. Use Cultural Touchpoints

If you're writing a love letter in French, you can include references to French culture, such as famous French love songs or movies. If you’re learning Korean, you can take the Drops K-pop and K-drama courses to learn specific cultural references. This will show your significant other that you're making an effort to understand their culture and connect with them on a deeper level.

5. Proofreading for Perfection

Have someone else proofread it. Once you've finished writing your letter, it's a good idea to have someone else who is fluent in your target language proofread it. This will help you catch any mistakes and ensure that your letter is as perfect as possible.

Writing a love letter in another language can be a great way to express your love and practice your language skills. By following these tips, you'll be able to write a letter that will impress your significant other and make them feel loved and appreciated. Happy Valentine's Day!"
